Cave de Turckheim

Cave de Turckheim is situated in the pretty village of Turckheim, just slightly north west of Colmar. Firmly established as one of the best co-operatives in the world Cave de Turckheim always pays the utmost respect for the wine, combining rigour, know-how and patience with the latest technology and a steady stream of investment. Michel Lihrmann has been their senior winemaker for over 25 years and strongly believes that varietals in Alsace should express their delicate characteristics and favours the dryer style of Alsace wines. Cave de Turckheim produce an extensive range of wines, from their value-for-money Cave Tradition varietal range to the wines from 3 different Grand Crus. Central to Cave de Turckheim’s success is their willingness to innovate; two years ago they launched the Réserve range to great acclaim, and 2006 sees the launch of the Terroir D’Alsace range (formerly Lieux-Dit), a label change for their signature Grand Cru range. Grapes are selected from vineyards with diverse soils - limestone, granite, gravel, marl and sandstone - which impart different characters and styles to the overall blend, and harvested by hand and machine, depending on site.

From vines to grapes, from grapes to wine. For more than 50 years, through the expertise of passionate winegrowers and winemakers, Cave de Turckheim produces various wines reflecting a kaleidoscope of flavors. These wines were born from a subtle alchemy of their passion, Alsace's respect for tradition and their exceptional soils.

2008 Grand Cru Brand Pinot Gris
This wine is full-on tropical fruit (pineapple & dried apricot) aromas mixed with spice and honey, rich and full-bodied concentration, spicy but with 'sweet' fruit undertones and then followed by long acidity making it taste drier and more elegant. Superb with foie gras, Indian and Thai food, salmon or sea bass dishes .

2008 Grand Cru Brand Riesling
A wine that is still characterized by its extreme elegance, with flavors of citrus fruit, zesty acid and stony minerality. Enjoy with seafood salads or lightly spiced dishes.

2011 Tradition Gewurztraminer
The Gewurztraminer shows lovely balance of ripeness, varietal purity and finesse. Fragrant rose-petal and grapefruit aromas with a hint of sweet spice, quite rich but with lychee, spicy juicy fruit and acidity combining well to the finish. Try with blue cheeses, exotic cuisine such as the lemongrass flavors of Thai food or fish/chicken curries.

2011 Tradition Pinot Blanc
Dry yet fleshy, rounded and full of body. This wine has a perfumed nose with hints of peaches and citrus and a steely backbone that carries through on the palate. Faint spice and crisp finish to balance. This Pinot Blanc is a versatile wine which is good for any occasion which needs a dry fruity wine; on its own or with chicken, fish, seafood or sausages.

2011 Tradition Pinot Gris
This Pinot Gris has a lovely perfumed nose with fine floral aromas mixed with a tad of honey and spice, quite full and rich, lightly smoky and nutty with a smooth dryish finish. Brilliant with most oriental dishes.

2011 Tradition Riesling
Fresh flavors of lemon and white blossom. Fruity and easy to drink. Elegant and dry, floral with a crisp citrussy finish, it’s a terrific seafood wine.
